The Owl Creek
Mountain Trip

The trip begins in Thermopolis and
we will load up all the gear and
horses and head west 66 miles
into the Owl Creek Mountain range
on the private remote 150,000
acre historic HD/High Island
Ranch. The last 22 miles of the
trip will be quickly gaining elevation
and the ranch road winds through
spectacular scenery where spotting
elk, moose, mule deer and
antelope is common. There is also
a good population of both black
and grizzly bear which you may be
lucky enough to see.

The lodge is nestled in the timber
right next to Rock Creek and sits
at about 9,500’ elevation. You will
have the choice of one of the
eight lodge bedrooms or one of
the several outfitters’ wall tents
with wood floors. Each has beds
and mattresses. All you will need
is a bedroll. They are also
equipped with a wood burning stove
should the nights turn cold. The
dining/gathering room is where we
will eat our breakfast and dinner.
Lunch will be creek side during the
day. When we arrive at the lodge
we will unpack our gear and while
your guides are preparing dinner
you may fish for beautiful native
Yellowstone Cutthroat trout right
in front of the lodge.  After
dinner you may relax with a good
book, pitch horseshoes, throw
darts or round up a card game.

The next morning after a hot
breakfast we will take pack
lunches and get out either on rock
Creek or in the South Fork of Owl
Creek Canyon and spend the day
fishing for more cutthroat and
sightseeing.  Be sure and bring
your camera and binoculars. After
a 10 mile round trip hike and we
are back in camp you can take a
nice hot shower and relax while we
prepare a hearty western meal.
The days will consist of hiking,
sightseeing and fishing over 30
miles of private mountain streams.

We will also have available
horseback rides in mornings and
evenings. If the group desires, we
will do an overnight pack trip and
set up tents for a wonderful
mountain camping experience. Each
trip will be tailored according to
the group’s wishes. If you do not
have time for an overnight stay in
The Owl Creek Mountains, but you
would like to experience a taste of
the incredible scenery and fly
fishing, then day trips are also
available.
